Plug

I've been on the interweb for nearly eight years now. Seven years ago this month I created my first and only website apart from this blog.

Nice Nostalgia Archive

I created it back before Yahoo bought out Geocities. This can been seen from the long URL. Geocities used to divide URLs into category "neighbourhoods" based on the topic of the site. It can be hard to classify something sometimes. I ended up putting it under historic / art and literature.

At the time free hosting services were somewhat limited. Geocities was the biggest and often the slowest. I should have changed hosts at some point but I couldn't be bothered.

When I first created it back in 1998 I updated it regularly. This was around about the same time of the 70s and 80s nostalgia boom. Loads of other similar sites with loads more people working on them started springing up. My little site became somewhat redundant and as time went on the updates became rarer. Eventually becoming my own piece of interweb nostalgia.

I occasionally bring it out of retirement and add a couple of articles when the mood takes me. I haven't even updated the main graphic for 2005 yet. If you think that's bad it was stuck on 2001 till late last year.

I have found writing the blog a lot easier than writing entries for the website. I think because in the blog I can write about anything I like. The website has a pretty narrow criteria although the whole of the 1970s and 1980s doesn't seem very narrow.

Maybe my move from the UK to Australia will help motivate me write some more of my nostalgic memories.
