Surfing the Blogs

I spent a large part of my evening hitting the "NEXT BLOG>>" button. I wanted to see what's out there. Well most Blogs I probably spent around five seconds on for various reasons :

  • They weren't written in English. Many of them were probably interesting if the photos are anything to go by. Unfortunately I can only read in English and maybe a little French if the blogs contain a lot of technical jargon which is normally in English.
  • Commercial Blogs which are little more than adverts.

  • Blogs with one or no entries.

  • Too many "cute" graphics - teddy bears, bunnies, kittens etc. I don't mind cute but you can take something too far.

  • Unreadable fonts.

  • Unreadable templates that had the formatting, windows and colours all over the place. Okay to be fair I'm using firefox and many of the blogs aren't designed with that in mind.

  • Blog templates that shove the actual posts into tiny little boxes, that you have to constantly scroll because it only has enough room for about ten words.
  • Really poor grammar and spelling. Nobody is perfect and everyone makes mistakes, but it makes it hard to read. Considerable effort on my part because the writer is lazy and more often than not has little worthwhile to say.

  • They open stupid pop-ups that you have to click "OK" in about 10 times before you see the blog. Hey, okay maybe one or two for effect or humour but come on.

  • They automatically open large video/audio files without giving you any choice in the matter.

After ploughing through these I found a handful of really interesting ones. Some of which I may link when I've had a good look at them.
